Gold rush continues for Calderdale's paralympians in Rio

Hannah Cockroft, 24, won her second gold of the 2016 games when she rode to victory in the T34 400m in a world-record time 58.78 seconds

And in another triumphant result, Steve Bate, who lives in Mytholmroyd, and his pilot Adam Duggleby won Britain’s third cycling gold of the day with victory in the tandem road time-trial.

It was the pair’s second gold of the Paralympic Games after their tandem pursuit win.

Karen Darke went one better than the London 2012 Paralympics by winning gold in the H1-3 time trial in Rio.

The 45-year-old from Mytholmroyd has continued her good form this season and triumphed in the road cycling event in a time of 33 minutes 44.93 seconds.

Wheelchair basketball player Harry Brown will also be representing Team GB as he takes on Spain in tonight’s semi-final at 9.30pm.

ParalympicsGB’s nine golds on Wednesday took their tally to 43, improving on their 34 four years ago.
