After seeing both his grandparents and mother and father reach the 50-year milestone of marriage, Peter Mumby hoped that one day he could too reach a golden wedding anniversary of his own.
And now that has finally happened when today the 76-year-old celebrates with wife of half a century Pat, 71.
The pair - who throughout the duration of their marriage have lived on the same avenue in Elland - met while they were both working at offices in Greetland.
They married at Providence United Reformed Church, Ovenden, on October 19, 1963.
Pat, originally of Ovenden, and Peter, of Holywell Brook, went on to have two children - Paul, 48 and Nicola, 46.
“We’ve so many great memories,” said Pat - a keen gardener - who cheerily reflected on touring the country over the years in the caravan she shared with her husband.
Throughout the marriage Peter carried out work as a administration company secretary for various building firms.
On weekends, he was heavily involved in the football industry - as a player, coach, scout and referee before going on to set up the Elland Juniors team.
The pair will celebrate their big day with a party at their daughters house with family and friends.
