A SPECIAL assembly was held at Wainstalls Primary School in honour of Jill Pickles, who is retiring after 24 years.
The school gave Jill, an administrator, flowers and jewellery as a leaving gift.
She said: “I‘ve seen the school go through nine head teachers since I’ve been here. There have been a lot of changes.”
“I will miss being with my colleagues and the children. It will be very quiet.
“There are so many memories. The nice part is when parents come in and you realise they were pupils at the school and they still remember you.
She added: “It’s a lovely, friendly and small school and it has been that way since the beginning. We are just one big happy family.”
Head teacher Anne Bowyer said: “It will be a great loss.
“All the kids have written her some lovely messages.
“She is the heart of the school and will really be missed,” she said.
