A woman will complete the challenge of a lifetime to raise money for the charity which helped her during her breast cancer battle.
Sally Moore, 42, will trek through the stunning Grand Canyon landscape to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
It will be a gruelling journey for Sally, who believes had she waited for a routine check-up after discovering a lump in her breast, she would not be here today.
“I was listening to the radio when I heard about the trek.
“I’m doing it with a group called Charity Challenge for Macmillan - it’s a charity which resonates with me and many, many other people.
“I’m really excited and really really anxious.
“There’s a bit of trepidation, as physically it is a massive challenge.”
Sally found the cancerous lump in 2012, after years of finding non-cancerous lumps which had been cysts.
“I had an appointment pre-booked for April, but I think that if I had waited until then to get it checked out, it would have been a worst case scenario,” she said.
Sally, who lives in Elland, underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy as well as a double mastectomy - she now hopes her challenge will show others that it’s possible to fight cancer and live a full, rewarding life. “TheGrand Canyon has been on my travel wish list for a long time and I can’t think of a better way to see it.
“I’m going to really enjoy meeting new people and it’s going to be an absolutely fantastic experience.”
Sally has committed £3,500 to the charity and to help reach this target she is holding a Frozen sing-a-long at the Rex Cinema on March 1.
Tickets cost £5 and can be bought by calling 07733 002329, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or visiting Andrew Hirst Pharmacy on Southgate.
