Grease is the word at Scout's sing-along fundraiser
The Rotary Club of Brighouse have donated a total of £1,000 to fund a Scout's trip to America next year.
Jasmin Brook contacted the Rotary Club to ask if they could sponsor her in her efforts of raising £4,000 to attend the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia in 2019.
Rotary member Judy Armitage said: “We donated £300 to Jasmin following her request for help but we then suggested running an event and giving her all the proceeds.
“The Rotary Club of Brighouse has a dedicated Youth Opportunities Committee and particularly like to help young people within the local community.
“Jasmin wrote a lovely letter requesting help to fund her trip and was happy to help Rotary raise the money.”
The event was a Grease Sing-a-long, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the film’s release, and took place at Christ Church Centre in Hipperholme.
Jasmin, who is a student at Brighouse High School, served as host during the evening as those who attended sang along to all of the memorable hits from the film.
The event raised £700, bringing the Rotary Club’s total to £1,000 which will all go towards funding Jasmin’s exciting trip.
Judy said: “She did a fantastic job waitressing the event and Tesco very kindly donated some of the food.
“In the Year of the Woman we feel ‘this girl can’.”
Jasmin has a fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving if anyone wants to contribute to her cause.
