Halifax Long march to help more charities

After 50 years of supporting only Christian Aid the committee has decided to change the way they operate the Long March.

Organisers will still be supporting Christian Aid, but they are now opening the Long March to a range of additional charities.

This will enable walkers to take part and raise money for some really great causes.

Robert Batty, one of the organisers of the long march said: “This is a great new opportunity for Charities to use an established event to support their causes.

“The traditional March is continuing - but we want it supported and used by a larger and wider group of people. Please do what you can to encourage the success of the expanded opportunity that is being offered.

“Together we can all make a massive difference.”

Taking place on Easter Sunday, the walk has been reduced to 15 miles to help enable more people to participate, and achieve this challenge.

The route is kept secret with particpants starting at midnight from the YMCA in Halifax Town Centre.

Any charities wanting to raise money by encouraging supporters to join in are asked to let The Long March Committee know by completing the form on their website at www.longmarch.org.uk.

The only charge for a walker will be a registration fee of £20 (raised to £30 on the night), which will enable the event to be run safely.

After that, walkers can decide if they would like to support a charity of their choice. Sponsor forms will be made available from the chosen charity.
