Leeds Crown Court heard police first executed a search warrant at the home of Jamie Casey on January 16, 2014 as a result of information that an IP address registered to him was accessing such images.

A laptop and computer tower were seized. He was not arrested at that time while they were analysed.

Carmel Pearson prosecuting told the court at an earlier hearing that in April last year he was arrested to be interviewed about what was found and admitted in the period in between he had used a new computer to access further images.

The total found on all his computer equipment were 923 images and 306 movies at Category A, the most serious including some sadism, 2,596 images and 163 movies at Category B and 2,535 images and 46 movies at Category C.

Casey, 22 of Wellington Point, Wellington Place, Halifax admitted 16 charges possessing indecent images and one of distributing them.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said the offences were too serious to avoid an immediate prison term.

“Those who download these images contribute to the degradation of children. Without those downloading and sharing them there would be no market for these images. The suffering these children must have endured is beyond description.”
