Halifax MP Holly Lynch has said she is backing Andy Burnham to lead the Labour party.
She said: “It was a very tough decision as there are pros and cons to all the potential candidates.
“I’ve spoken to Andy Burnham on a number of issues and I think he’s led from the front on health policy.
“He seems to be the runaway leader at the moment. Rumours are that he’ll get more than a hundred nominations.”
Mrs Lynch chose not to back either of the runners from West Yorkshire - Yvette Cooper, MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford or Mary Creagh, MP for Wakefield.
She said: “Andy came to Halifax recently and has been very supportive throughout on the A&E situation, so he’s going to be getting my nomination.”
Mr Burnham has been the MP for Leigh, Greater Manchester, since 2001 and Shadow Health Secretary since 2011.
