Halifax MP given tour of site for new R&D facility
Halifax MP Holly Lynch came to visit the exciting new £3.75 million R&D facility being built at North Dean Business Park, in the Greetland area of Halifax, by GAMA Healthcare.
Ms Lynch, elected to represent Halifax at the 2015 general election, was shown around the site by Dr Guy Braverman, a co-founder of GAMA.
The site is expected to be completed in November.
Spread over two floors, the facility will comprise of an open plan office environment, along with cutting edge research laboratories and auxiliary space for the production of test product samples.
The main areas of focus for the laboratory will be hospital infection control and wound care, and the site is eventually expected to host up to 30 members of staff, with the option of a further extension.
GAMA, headquartered in Watford, was established in 2004 by two junior doctors, Dr Guy Braverman and Dr Allen Hanouka.
They developed a single universal disinfectant wipe that was effective on a range of healthcare acquired infections, at a time when it was traditional to use a two-step approach of first cleaning then disinfecting surfaces and equipment in hospitals.
Since then, the business has grown rapidly to become the main supplier to the NHS, with more than 130 employees.
Their products are increasingly sought overseas, now selling to 60 countries worldwide, particularly in China and Australia, where they have opened up offices.
Gama’s first laboratory in Sowerby Bridge was destroyed in the Boxing Day floods of 2016, so the research and development team have been operating out of a temporary prefabricated laboratory in Luddenden Foot.
The company chose Halifax because of the strong research links with the University of Huddersfield, as well as the vibrant local offer and the strong transport links.
Ms Lynch said “It was great to see the plans for this exciting new site, which will be a great addition to the Halifax economy.
“I look forward to seeing the site again when open and fully operational”
Commenting, Dr Guy Braverman, Co- Founder and Co - Managing Director of GAMA, said: “We were delighted to host Holly and show her the plans for our new facility, which will play host to cutting edge R&D for products sold in markets around the world.”
