Participants in the anniversary run are being encouraged to dress in brightly coloured clothes and there will be cake and refreshments at the event on March 5 at 9am.

It will also be the 50th time the run has been staged, and will feature a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Halifax parkrun is a free, timed 5k run every Saturday at 9am at Shroggs Park and it’s organised by a team of local volunteers, who make sure the parkrun happens in all weathers and conditions.

The event usually attracts around 100 runners each week, but the special anniversary run we may get more than 150 people taking part.

1,400 people have taken part in the last year, the oldest of which was 86 and the youngest aged five, while 210 different volunteers have helped out.
