Cameras are again rolling in Calderdale ahead of Sally Wainwright’s latest drama being aired on BBC 1 next year.
“Happy Valley” is expected to be another big hit starring Sarah Lancashire as a police sergeant. She also stars in “Last Tango in Halifax” which has already projected images of Calderdale into millions of homes.
Sally has again returned to her roots for the setting of “Happy Valley” which is a dark, funny and multi-layered thriller revolving around the personal and professional life of police sergeant “Catherine.”
It kicks-off when a staged kidnapping quickly spirals out of control and turns into a much more brutal and vicious series of crimes.
“Catherine is also a bereaved mother who looks after her orphaned grandchild. It’s an emotional, complex, challenging role,” said Sarah.
“I’m terrified, exhausted and freezing cold but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
Sally, who is also doubling up as executive producer, said she is thrilled to be back filming in Calderdale.
“On screen it will look stunning,” she said.
This week filming centred on the police station at Sowerby Bridge and the entire series is being screened at locations across Calderdale.
Staff from Red Production Company, Manchester, are commuting.
A spokeswoman for the company said the script demanded filming took place in Calderdale and everyone was enjoying being in the area.
Last Tango concludes its second series on Christmas Eve (BBC1 9 pm) with a finale that promises to tie up the loose ends.
