Harrogate’s Autumn Flower Show

This year’s event takes place from September 18-20 and as always will be hosted at the Great Yorkshire Showground.

But visitors will have plenty of new and exciting show features to get their green-tipped fingers stuck into.

Show Director Nick Smith said: “We are looking forward to a fantastic 40th show! Changes to the layout have enabled us to introduce a new Plant Pavilion marquee with the extra height and light to give our exhibitors a real opportunity to increase the impact of their displays.”

With over 5,000 autumn blooms on display, the show will be an explosion of colour and sight not to be missed.

A number of spectacular displays have also been put together in celebration of the show’s ruby anniversary.

Whilst Matthewman’s Sweet Pea growers have specially bred a vivid red fragrant flower called the Lathyrus odoratus, the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies has created a ruby floral art display.

But it’s not just a bunch of pretty flowers at the show - the very popular giant vegetable competition continues to grow with the introduction of the all new Gigantomo tomatoes class.

In the closest thing to the veg-olympics these enormous red monsters will be subject to DNA testing to distinguish them from your average tomato but will also give growers the chance to win £6,000 if a new world record is set.

New at the show this year:

- The Lathyrus odoratus ‘Harrogate Gem’ display

- The new Plant Pavilion will mean nearly 100 plant nursery displays will be under one roof

- A new ‘Showstopper Award’ is up for grabs for exhibits with the biggest wow-factor

- The new gardening hall will also host the brand new Harvest and Hedgerow feature which celebrates all things about the nature of autumn.
