“It also presents an excellent opportunity for me personally to gain experience in another challenging role, in turn, creating opportunities for continued professional development and creating a great environment for staff retention.

“I will still very much be head teacher at Rastrick High School, and the skills I develop in this role will be important in maintaining our relentless pursuit to improve teaching and learning.”

“Deputy head teachers Mat Williams and Matt Crowther will step up to the role of Associate Heads, and my continued role in the days I am at the school will be to challenge and support them and all our leaders to ensure we continue to consistently deliver the very best teaching and pastoral care to our fantastic students.

“This is a new challenge, but one that we are planning carefully for and one which will ensure that our school moves from strength to strength.”

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, Coun Megan Swift, said: “I’m pleased to welcome Steve to the Council and I’m confident that his wealth of experience will see him thrive in this vital role.

“Steve will bring fresh new ideas to the Council and help us to continue to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people in Calderdale.”
