Heading to the great outdoors

Year 7 pupils descended onto Bradley Scout Camp, in Brighouse, today, to meet new friends and to take part in a variety of activities.

It is the ninth time the school has organised the trip and this year saw 240 children start their day with breakfast at the school.

From there, they embarked on a treasure hunt up to the camp.

Deborah Adamson, learning manager, said the event was a team effort and incorporated their feeder school.

“The Bradley Wood Camp staff have been excellent. Form tutors, support staff and Year 11 helpers have all been brilliant and are leading by example.

“One of the highlights for the children is staff from their junior schools come to help and can talk to them.

“The aim is encourage all the new pupils to make new friends and get them working together.”

The camp is split into four zones - team building, target, harness and survival.

The activities included archery, rock climbing, caving, bread making, rope walking and orienteering.

Rastrick High school and Sixth form College will be holding an opening evening on Wednesday September 19 from 6pm to 9pm.

Head teacher Helen Lennie will be giving her welcome talk at 6.15pm and 7.15pm.

Parents and children will be able to see professional working environment and look around the ICT resource facilities.

There is also extensive enrichment programme includes sports clubs, Duke of Edinburgh award, theatre trips and trips abroad including skiing and extra curricular music tuition.

The Sixth form will also be available to view which caters for over 250 students in a purpose built environment with excellent specialist facilities, a dedicated study area and common room.
