Health services in Calderdale to continue over Easter

GP practices in Calderdale will continue to operate on Good Friday (10 April) and Easter Monday (13 April) this year to help people during the coronavirus pandemic.

People who need medical help or advice can call their practice from from 8am to 6.30pm on the Monday and Friday. People must not enter GP practices in Calderdale unless they have been given permission by a clinician during a telephone or video consultation.

People are being asked to contact their GP practice by phone if they need an appointment or advice.

Doctor Majid Azeb, GP at Southowram Surgery and NHS Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group’s Clinical Lead for Primary Care, wants to remind people of the arrangements in place for accessing primary care services in Calderdale.

“GP’s will be here to help and treat people on Good Friday and Easter Monday, but precautions are still in place to reduce the risk of the coronavirus spreading and to protect doctors, nurses, reception staff, and patients

“As has been the case for the past few weeks, if you need an appointment with a GP or Practice Nurse you’ll have one over the phone, or a video call.

“If a face-to-face GP appointment is necessary, you’ll be told where to go, but you may see a different doctor or nurse than the one you usually see. Home visits will be arranged if the doctor thinks it is needed.

“Your GP practice is continuing to do their part over Easter, and we’re asking that the people keep doing their part by being responsible and staying at home unless absolutely necessary.”

Pharmacies are expected to open from 2pm until 5pm Good Friday and Easter Monday, and some may stay open longer to help people who need immediate health advice and over-the-counter medicines and treatments for minor illnesses and injuries.
