Feeling the pinch? Get 2012 off to good start

IF you’re feeling a bit stuffed after Christmas, banish the bloat by signing up to one of the new and exciting activity classes in Illingworth and Bradshaw.

The local neighbourhood scheme has launched January’s classes, aimed at people over 50.

Beth Maiden, at the neighbourhood schemes team, said: ”Those looking for a way to work off their Christmas dinners may enjoy t’ai chi or table tennis, or the new-look keep fit class.

“Or if you’re looking to challenge the mind you might fancy the new Chess Class, where you can learn the ins and outs of this fascinating game. Or bring a favourite game along to the board games club and enjoy Scrabble or dominoes over a cuppa. There’s also the informal painting class, suitable for all levels, especially beginners. “If it’s a cuppa and a laugh you’re after, try the Crafty Club, who are offering hand massages and a book swap as well as card making, knitting and other crafts. The group are also planning computer classes and a party for the new year.”

Keep fit classes are held on Tuesdays, from January 10, at 10am to 11am at Illingworth Moor Methodist Church; the Crafty Club meets every Wednesday, 10am to noon at Illingworth Fire Station.

On Thursdays at Bradshaw St John’s Church, on Pavement Lane, will be: Tai Chi at 10am to 11am, chess at 9.45am to 11.15am, table tennis and board games at 11.30am to 1pm and painting class at 11.30am to 1pm.

Classes cost from £2 to £3.50 per session. Similar groups are also held in Southowram, Halifax, Todmorden and Sowerby Bridge.
