Music night to boost fund

A FUND-RAISING night is being held on Saturday to raise cash for a charity that helps little Hollie Shaw.

The six-year-old suffers from the rare genetic skin blistering condition epidermolysis bullosa, which means even the slightest knock or rub can cause painful, open wounds.

DebRA is the only national charity for people with the condition and the event at Halifax Golf Club in Ogden at 8pm will boost its coffers.

Hollie’s mum Leah Taylor, who will be attending with her daughter, said: “It’s crucial that money is raised for DebRA, which doesn’t just fund research but also travelling nurses and weekends away for the children.”

Miss Taylor, 31, of Ravenstone Drive, Greetland, checks Hollie for blisters every morning, which then need to be burst and dressed.

Hollie – who is on daily strong painkillers – is covered in bandages and every three days they have to be soaked off and fresh ones applied.

But Miss Taylor said she’s a joy. “She does get down but smiles her way through it. She’s just brilliant.”

The £10 event features live music and a pie-and-pea supper. Tickets are available from the golf club on 01422 244171 or the pro shop on 01422 240047.
