A new service which will allow children to see medical professionals closer to their homes is underway in Halifax.
Child Healthcare Closer to Home is a 12 month pilot where children are able to see a health professional with expertise in child health rather than travelling to hospital.
Children who have previously had to attend hospital can visit a clinic at Innovations Children’s Centre, Ovenden.
A children’s community nurse is working with GPs in six practices across Halifax accepting referrals.
Dr Sal Uka,:lead paediatrician at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The clinics are not just an outreach clinic from the hospital in the community but a totally new way of working.
“There will be obvious benefits to children, young people and their families not having to travel to the hospital but it should also build on the support they need to help look after themselves.”
