GENEROUS Courier readers have already raised more than 10 per cent of the £80,000 target to fund Marie Curie nurses in Calderdale.
Since our major campaign launched in December to raise cash to fund the care of terminally-ill patients in their homes, a total of £8,560 has been donated.
Marie Curie nurses help those who choose to die at home and in Calderdale have never been busier.
Last year they provided 3,749 hours of nursing, costing £45,383.
Our target to raise £80,000 to continue the vital service is now well on its way.
Calderdale Marie Curie nurse Joanna Bond, the face of the appeal, said: “I’m really thrilled.
“It’s great news. I’m touched that people have been so supportive. I’d like to thank everyone and just ask people to keep it up!
“There are a lot of terminally ill patients in Calderdale who need our care.
“With your support we will be able to continue this valuable service, especially as more people are choosing to die at home.”
Tracy Calcraft, Marie Curie area fund-raising manager, added: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people throughout Calderdale at the start of this appeal.
“With your continued support we will be able to ensure that Calderdale has all the Marie Curie Nurses it needs. Thank you on behalf of all our patients and families.”
