24 hours after the big day, Calderdale is getting a white Christmas as snow falls across the borough.

There is disruption on some roads and West Yorkshire Police have urged motorists to pay extra attention on motorway entry and exit slip roads.

On the M62 at J22 (Rishworth Moor) the entry slip road is closed due to heavy snow fall.

At J23 (Outlane) the entry and exit slip roads are passable with care.

And at J24 (Ainley Top) lanes one and two are running slowly, with extra police units and gritters out in force.

Calderdale Highways has confirmed that all gritters and tractor ploughs will stay out all night, concentrating on major routes first.

A yellow warning for snow for has been issued by the Met Office and will be in force until 6am on Saturday morning.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Some uncertainty surrounds how much snow will occur.

“As precipitation clears, roads could turn very icy - the public should be aware of the potential for disruption from snow.”

Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as -2C and light snow showers are forecast for tomorrow (Saturday), with highs of 1C and lows of -1C.
