For the first time in more than a century, wheelchair users can now access all of Hebden Bridge Town Hall.
A hoist has been installed in the ground floor foyer to allow disabled people to reach the previously inaccessible ground floor of the original Victorian Town Hall building.
Andrew Bibby, Hebden Bridge Community Association trustee, said: “When we first took over the Town Hall building from Calderdale Council, one of our major concerns was to make it accessible for everyone.
“The Victorians bequeathed us a fine landmark building, but unfortunately one which didn’t meet today’s standards for accessibility.
“It’s taken us a little time, but we’re delighted to have finally got there.”
The South Pennines Leader programme has donated £5,000 to the cost of the hoist, with trustees currently fundraising for the £4,000 still needed.
