Firefighters were called to Bankfield Museum after arsonists set hedges alight close to the building.

Crews from Halifax Fire Station were called to the scene at Akroyd Park, Boothtown Road, at 1.30am.

They spent around half an hour bringing the burning hedges, at the back of the museum, under control.

Firefighters said the cause was almost certainly deliberate ignition but there was no way for them to investigate who had started the fire.
