A youth brass band has launched a fundraising mission to help realise its dream of competing in a prestigious competition.
Elland Silver Youth Brass Band has qualified for the European Youth Brass Championships, to be held in Lille, France on May 1.
But the band needs to raise £12,000 to pay for the travel and accommodation costs of the 45 players and chaperones.
Conductor Sam Harrison described the event as an “amazing opportunity”.
She said: “These musicians are so talented, many of the players have only received tuition from other volunteers.
“This is such an amazing opportunity for the whole group and an experience which will stay with them for life.
“The band are one of two other bands from the UK and we are the only independent UK brass band to be invited.
“It’s something we have never done before, so it’s really exciting and a great opportunity for Elland.
“We are putting lots of time into practising the music because we want to do as well as we can and hopefully bring the trophy home.”
The band has already managed to raise some of the money needed - the Community Foundation for Calderdale has given the band £2,5000 and the Bearder Charity has given £1,000.
Other donations have been given and money has also been raised through events such as concerts, collections, raffles and bake sales.
Another fundraising concert will be held with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band on Saturday, April 9, at Halifax Minster.
Tickets are now on sale from Kathleen Harrison on 01484 717126 and are £12 and £10.
