A Brighouse teenager is looking to raise funds for a friend who has been in an induced coma for six months following a car accident.

Emily Hanson, of Hove Edge, has organised a black tie event for Paul Turnbull, who has been treated at Salford Royal Hospital since March after an accident on Saddleworth Road.

The 19-year-old, who works with Paul at Sainsburys in Mythomroyd, said she wanted to do something to help the family.

“There was a point when we thought he wouldn’t make it,” said the former Brighouse High and Sixth Form student. “He is responding well and is now able to open his eyes.

Donations have begun to come in for the raffle and silent auction for the event at the Holiday Inn, Clifton, on November 14.

The money raised will help support Paul and his family during his recovery.

“I am really grateful for the support we have got. Even if the money can go towards fuel for his family who are travelling to hospital every day, it will help them get through this difficult time.”

Any businesses or people who might be able to help should call Emily on 07864921820.
