Here are some of the weird and wonderful Halifax Town kits over the years

After Halifax Town recently revealed the designs for their 2019-20 kits, we take a look back at the good, the bad and the ugly of some of the clubs' previous sartorial efforts.

Halifax Town have predominantly worn a blue and white kit, writes Johnny Meynell, though initially the team played in black and white stripes and were nicknamed the Magpies between 1911 - 1916. The club adopted a blue strip for the first time in 1919 following the end of the First World War, and were nicknamed the Royal Blues. For 1920-21 the colours were changed to blue and white stripes, the kit Town wore when they were elected to the Football League in 1921.

In 1924-25 Town adopted blue shirts with gold shoulders for two years before reverting back to blue and white stripes, a strip they were with the odd modification until the end of 1946-47.

It was then that Halifax Town changed to all blue shirts with white collars, a strip worn during the famous FA Cup run of 1952-53, though for one season only 1951-52 Halifax Town wore shirts similar to those worn by West Ham and Aston Villa, those of claret, with blue sleeves. A 'V' collar first appeared in 1957, and between 1959-62 Town played in blue shirts with white sleeves.

All-blue shirts with hooped collars was introduced for the 1962-63 season and it wasn't until George Kirby introduced tangerine shirts and light blue shorts in 1970-71 that anything too radical was seen.

In 1972-73 the club wore white shirts with blue and tangerine trim, then adopted what had been original an away kit of all-white with a blue and tangerine diagonal sash across the shirts.

1973-75 saw Halifax Town wear all blue shirts with tangerine collars, and in 1975 blue shirts with white colours appeared once more.

It was Jimmy Lawson who introduced the all-white strip for 1978-79 - 'a touch of the Real Madrids'. The strip had a blue patterned sleeve, replaced by a thick blue stripe for 1979-80.

In 1980-81, the club reverted to blue shirts with white trim, with white shorts, and wore these colours until 1983. During 1982-83 the name of club's first sponsors, Macdee (fitted kitchens), appeared on the shirts. The players first wore a pin-striped shirt for the home game with Scunthorpe United on 28 December 1982.

Stripes were introduced once more in 1985, and Town wore blue and white striped shirts with blue shorts during 1988-89 Jim McCalliog adopted Argentina's light blue and white striped shirt for 1990-91. An all-light blue strip was introduced for 1991-92 and stripes once more for the ill-fated 1992-93 campaign. Thereafter, Town's kit was redesigned each season.
