The organisers of the annual Brodstock music festival said: “We had hoped to welcome 6000+ festival-goers to Woodhead Park on Saturday, 20 June but it’s just not to be for this year.
“We’d been planning for months to take things to the next level with an outstanding line up of local musicians, a new second stage, roaming performers, more activities for the kids and all with a fundraising target of £30,000 for good causes.

“However the unprecedented uncertainty around the date and key weeks and months building up to the festival has given us no choice but to cancel.

“It certainly wasn’t an easy decision but we all have tough times ahead and must focus on what’s right for our community and our people.

“Brodstock is completely not-for-profit, run by volunteers, with all money raised going to local causes and community grassroots sport. In fact well over 100 volunteers put on last year’s event.

“The next few months will give a lot of people new challenges and perspectives. The most important thing is to stay safe, support the vulnerable and do right by your family.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers for all their hard work and thank all the musicians who put themselves forward to play for free. We’d like to acknowledge our suppliers and traders, who have become part of the extended Brodstock family.”

Phil Rodda, Chair of the organising committee for the Cragg Challenge, which has been postponed until next year, said: “We are all very sad to be making this decision, but it’s really not that difficult to make with so much uncertainty to deal with.

“Like many event organisers, we have tried to wait as long as possible in the hope that the situation would not develop as far as it has. Our priority consideration is the safety of everyone involved and with this in mind we have to postpone.

“A key factor for us is the disruption and uncertainty that the COVID-19 situation creates to our key planning period.

“The coming 3-4 months are crucial to the delivery of the event and we can’t guarantee that all of the arrangements and preparations could be made and guaranteed. This is especially true for The Collinge Climb which involves over 100 local schoolchildren and we will be contacting schools directly once new arrangements are in place.

“All existing entries will automatically be carried forward to the rearranged date when it is announced, so if you have already entered you don’t need to do anything further. If, when the new date is set, you can’t make it, then please get in touch at that time. We hope to see record entries and crowds at the rearranged Cragg Challenge as part of the celebrations of defeating the virus and being able to assemble once again.”

Also on Facebook, the organisers of Shelf Gala said: “It is with great regret that Shelf Gala Committee 2020 have taken the decision due to the serious nature of the Coronavirus and the uncertainty of what may occur over the next few months we have decided to postpone the 4 July Shelf Gala and replace it with a slimmed down Gala on a proposed date Saturday, 5 September to give the local communities, charities, organisations, businesses something to help them raise funds for their causes and a good day out.

“Donations and donation requests following the proposed Gala will depend on our costs incurred and funds made but at this stage we don’t know, depending on Government guidance as to whether we will be permitted to put this proposed gala on. More details on this when we see what develops over the next few weeks.

“Over the next couple of months we will still be planning and contacting stalls, advertisers, sponsors etc to get some indication of what we can put on.
“Please keep in touch and join our new Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/officialshelfgala/ or log onto our web page www.shelfgala.org.uk/ which will be updated regularly to keep people informed. In the meantime, look after yourselves, hopefully Shelf Gala will be up and running on Saturday 5 September 2020.”
