End of an era as Brighouse business is to close its doors

Planning agents Innsight Design Ltd on behalf of Willow Properties (Yorkshire) Ltd have submitted plans for the refurbishment of the existing three storey building to include the change of use from a shop to a drinking establishment with expanded food provision.

The plan will also include three self contained flats.

In the planning application Innsight Desgn Limited said: "The existing property is currently vacant and in an increasing state of disrepair.

"The property is currently having a detrimental impact on the surrounding area of Brighouse and would benefit the area hugely from renovation and refurbishment through investment.

"The proposal is to provide a quality drinking establishment with extended food offering, which will attract both local people and those from outside the local environs, bringing people into the centre of Brighouse.

"Three flats to the upper floors assist in providing increased accommodation to the town centre, which is served by improved road and rail links to surrounding towns and cities and links to further afield.

"The proposal will employ approximately five full-time staff and twenty part-time making the proposal a viable employer within the city centre."

In March the business owner of Oddjobs that after 113 years of trading building and DIY products on site, the tradition was to come to an end.

Oddjobs closed down after 35 years in Brighouse, which will broughto an end to one of the town’s oldest businesses.
