Hundreds turn out to wave goodbye to popular “Proms in the Paddock” event

The event, a highlight of Clifton’s social calendar, came to an emotional end after ten years of entertaining the local community and raising masses of funds for St John’s Church.

Around 500 people enjoyed a summer’s evening of entertainment at the home of Debbie Spivey, featuring stunning performances from Clifton and Lightcliffe Brass Band and soprano singer Rachel Crisp,

Pat Ward, 50, of Clifton, said: “It was a wonderful evening and really quite emotional.

“The band were wonderful and it was a real Last Night of the Proms, with people waving flags.

“It was a very happy occasion.”

In a night to rival the London proms, guests at the event also enjoyed a spectacular firework display and sang along to traditional proms songs.

The money raised from this year’s event smashed previous fundraising targets and Debbie, who hosted the night, said that event has got better and better over the years.

“It was a fabulous night and the weather was gorgeous,” she said.

“People were in the party spirit.

“There was a real party atmosphere and everyone said it was the best one yet.

“The band played wonderfully, as they always do, and it was a brilliant evening.

“It’s been great to have the support of everyone in the village and the local community.

“It really was a lovely finale.”

The money raised from the event will go towards St John’s Church.

Some money will also be donated to the Newlife Foundation, a charity which helps disabled children and has supported Debbie’s three-year-old grandson, Sebastian Mawbey, pictured above right.
