Hurt toddler airlifted out of town centre

A TODDLER was rushed to hospital by air ambulance after being knocked down by a wagon in Halifax town centre.

The three-year-old girl, thought to be from Ripponden, was outside the Big Blue Frog play centre on Stead Street when the accident happened just after 9.30am.

Her condition was last night described as "serious and extremely poorly".

Officers taped off a large area around Stead Street yesterday morning to allow the Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter to land.

It managed to come down close by on Lister Lane and paramedics carried the little girl on a stretcher to the helicopter.

She was taken to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from serious leg injuries.

Staff at the Big Blue Frog said: "Everyone has been deeply affected by what happened and our thoughts are with her family."

The driver of the wagon has been interviewed by police but not arrested.

Anyone who witnessed the accident should call Calderdale Roads Policing team on 0845 6060606.
