Ian Wallis, 56, started his job at Taylor’s and Co in Brighouse straight from leaving school, and has stayed there ever since.

Ian, who was born in Brighouse, says his highlights include seeing colleagues Gary and Jason Taylor win World and European championships in the industry, and teaching film-stars Bill Nighy and Josh Hartnett how to cut hair in preparation for their movie Blow Dry.

“It’s absolutely flown by,” said Ian. “I can’t believe it. I’ve seen some changes but I’ve worked with some lovely people.

“There have been a lot of shops that have closed down in Brighouse over that time but Taylor’s is still going strong.

“The hairstyles have changed over the years. The young kids now all copy what they see on TV.

“But I still enjoy the job as much as I did when I first started. The first person’s hair I ever cut, I still cut his hair to this day. My customers have been superb - I have one who travels up from Tamworth, another from Lincoln.

“The enthusiasm is still there. I really enjoy it.”
