IN PICTURES: Halifax sparkles at annual Christmas lights switch on

Halifax is officially on the countdown to Christmas as the town centre lights were switched on over the weekend.

Thousands of people enjoyed an afternoon of festive events which included a world record attempt for the biggest ever gathering of people dressed as snowmen.

Danny and Rosie from Pulse FM hosted the event and were joined by guests including Father Christmas, the Mayor of Calderdale and pantomime characters from this year’s Victoria Theatre production of Snow White.

Extra money has been invested in new displays for this year’s Christmas lights and include new Ceiling of Lights in Princess Street.

A fantastic fireworks display brought the evening to a close.
