Inquest opens into death of cyclist killed in Hebden Bridge crash

An inquest has been opened into the death of a cyclist who died in Hebden Bridge.

Jason Hesketh, 32, from Rochdale, died at the scene following a crash with the car on Sunday July 17.

The incident occurred around 1.15pm, when the cyclist, who was travelling towards Hebden Bridge on Keighley Road, and a Vauxhall Zafira travelling in the opposite direction collided between Hebden Bridge and Pecket Well.

Two other male cyclists travelling along Keighley Road with the man were uninjured.

A further cyclist collided with a Peugeot van that had stopped to assist.

He was taken to hospital for treatment. The incidents are being investigated separately.

Sergeant Matt Tunney of West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team said; “I would appeal to anyone who was travelling around the area on Sunday afternoon who may have seen either the cyclists, or the vehicle prior to the incident or anyone who witnessed the collision itself to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”

The inquest into Mr Hesketh’s death was opened and adjourned on Wednesday at Bradford Coroner’s Court.
