Inspired music man's 1980s gig for society

Paul Farrell saw the book Unseen by L A Rogers and, combined with going to a fund raiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, he decided to organise the 80’s themed music event.

“I saw all the hard work that was being done by Christine West from the MS Society to put on the fund raiser and I thought I could give her a helping hand and raise money for the society.

“The book entitled Unseen really struck a chord with me and what Christine was doing - putting in all this effort with it going unnoticed.”

Musical talent runs in the Illingworth man’s family and his sons will also be performing at the gig.

His son Andrew, who is also a member of Halifax band the McCarrons, will be performing as part of the act Xplosiv 80’s.

His other two sons Graeme and Richard, who form the group We Aint Twins, will also be on stage.

“Music and Halifax Rugby League are two of my passions in life,” said Mr Farrell.

“To be performing on stage with my sons is going to be so special for me.”

The event has been supported by the Nationwide Bank and Queensbury Van and Storage hire.

The 54-year-old said he is also hoping to have some of musical friends at the gig including Jan Cyrka, who is famed for writing the ITV television theme tune to Jeremy Kyle.

Mr Farrell is also planning to organise fund raising events for Halifax Rugby league player Luke Ambler’s Andy’s Man Club campaign and for Scott Murrells Testamonial.

The 80s music gig will take place on May 19 at Arden Road Social Club, Halifax.

Fancy dress is welcomed and there will be a £1 charge for guests wearing their normal clothes. Tickets are £5 and available from the Guitar Zone in Crossley Street, Halifax.
