Investigation continues into cause of blaze where body was found

Investigations continue today (Monday) into the cause of a fire in Halifax where a man's body was found.

Fire Investigators are working alongside partners at West Yorkshire Police to establish the cause of a fire at a property in Rhodes Street, Halifax, on Friday April 1.

Firefighters were called to the property just before 8.20pm by police after a smoke alarm was heard sounding and crews from Halifax, Illingworth and Rastrick stations attended.

WYFRS Area Manager for Fire Safety Ian Bitcon said: “Investigations are continuing today into the cause of the fire in Rhodes Street, Halifax, on Friday.

“We received a call to the property from Police and firefighters from three fire stations attended.

“Sadly, one male was found deceased inside the property and our condolences are extended to his family and friends.

“Whilst there’s not believed to be suspicious circumstances, our Fire Investigators will work alongside police over the forthcoming days to establish the cause of the fire.”

Detective Chief Inspector Warren Stevenson, said: “Sadly the occupant of the property, a man believed to be in his 60s was found deceased.

“There are no suspicious circumstances to the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
