rastrick High School celebrated a new working relationship with a salon by giving a haircut to MP Craig Whittaker and other friends of the school. The technology centre based at the high school and sixth-form college has formed the partnership with Mark Riley’s Brighouse salon to allow pupils to get the vocational skills needed to work in hairdressing.
John Murphy, manager of Czerwik’s in Brighouse, and Katherine Rogan, corporate fund-raiser for Overgate Hospice in Elland, also had their hair cut. Salon owner Mr Riley said: “We are delighted to have formed this partnership with Rastrick and it is a great example of a school and a local employer working together for the benefit of young people.”
The event was part of a school programme to get more young people to learn vocational skills, alongside more traditional studies.
