HANG out your baskets and water your tubs – that’s the message from Sowerby Bridge In Bloom as summer judging approaches.
Judges will be touring the town on July 15 to mark its floral displays and the group is urging businesses and community groups to join in with the efforts.
Sheila Tordoff, chairwoman, said: “We do not know how we scored in the spring judging.
“The spring and summer marks will be announced together at a later date, but we have had comments back.
“Mostly they were good but there is still room for improvement.”
Postcards, sponsored by the Courier as part of our I Love Sowerby Bridge campaign, have been delivered around the town, urging people to put out baskets and planters.
“We are extremely grateful to editor Tim Robinson for this help,” said Mrs Tordoff.
“Thanks to the newspaper we have been able to print far more postcards than would otherwise have been possible and so have been able to contact far more people.”
In their spring judging feedback, judges said they were given a warm welcome to the town and that it was pleasing to see people with many different backgrounds supporting the In Bloom efforts.
“Businesses around the canal side had striking pots, window boxes and tubs with colourful and healthy plants,” they said.I
