It’s farewell to our ‘Miss’ after 25 years in class

A teacher who has stood at the heart of Hipperholme Grammar School for more than two decades will say a fond farewell when she retires at the end of term.

Mrs Angela Greenway, one of the school’s longest serving teaching staff, joined the school as a chemistry teacher in 1990 and has been a key figure in the science department for 25 years.

Mrs Greenway began her career in 1972. After studying chemistry at the Univeristy of York, she took a teaching post at what was Tong Comprehensive School and also worked at Yorkshire Martyrs Catholic College, before joining Hipperholme Grammar.

Speaking about her time at the school, Mrs Greenway, 64, said: “It’s not too big a school so there’s a great sense of community, with very friendly and supportive staff and, on the whole, well behaved, friendly, hardworking pupils.

“It’s been brilliant to watch them succeed and know that I have played a part in that.

“It’s a wonderful school, a lovely school to work in and everyone gets involved with everything.”

In her retirement, Mrs Greenway hopes to spend time with her three grandchildren, travel and learn Italian.

Headmaster Jack Williams said: “Angela will be much missed, she is a stable force within the school having been here for so long.

“Professional would sum her up and her warmth just shines through.”

The school will bid a special farewell to Mrs Greenway at an alumni reunion on June 26.

Mr Williams is inviting all former pupils - known as Brodleians - to attend the evening and help the school say goodbye.
