A MUM will muster all her strength to complete a charity midnight walk – on what would have been her dad’s birthday.
Joanne Normington, 34, from Ripponden, will attempt the 13-mile route starting at midnight tomorrow in aid of Overgate Hospice.
The route starts and finishes at North Bridge Leisure Centre.
Joanne will join 330 people who have already signed up to walk the secret route.
She will walk in memory of her dad Stuart Normington, who died aged 64. Tomorrow would have been his 67th birthday.
She decided to enter after seeing the care the staff at the hospice have been giving her nanna, Evelyn Gregory, aged 89.
Evelyn visits the day hospice weekly. “It’s become a special place for us,” said Joanne.
Joanne, who runs Beauty Point at the Image Warehouse, Sowerby Bridge, will be joined by her partner Andrew Doyle.
“Although my Dad didn’t attend Overgate I felt it would be a lovely way to remember him on what would have been his 67th birthday,” she said. “My nanna has really enjoyed going and meeting such wonderful people.
“I thought it would be a great way to show my appreciation to Overgate and a great way to raise money to help such a wonderful place that gives so much to so many people that need respite care and support.”
Registration costs £10 per person. Organisers hope to sign up 500 people. Signing up on the night costs £15.
