John Kenealy is the new editor of the Courier.
John lives with his wife Angela in Savile Park, Halifax. They have four grown-up children. He takes over from Tim Robinson, who is moving on to a new job.
John has worked for the Wakefield Express and Derby Evening Telegraph but has spent most of his working career at the Courier, where he has been sports editor, news editor and deputy editor.
He said: “It is a great honour to be appointed editor of the Courier. I look forward to maintaining the Courier’s reputation for in-depth coverage of the news in Calderdale and its tradition as a campaigning community newspaper.”
Tim, who has been editor of the paper since November 2010, is to take up the role of Group Editorial Design Director with the Courier’s parent company, Johnston Press.
During his time at the Courier, the paper has undergone one of the most radical changes in its history, with the switch from daily to weekly print publishing and the acceleration of online and electronic publishing.
Tim said: “I have met a great many Calderdale people during my time at the Courier and been welcomed here by loads of community groups.
“I would like to thank all of them, as well as our many loyal readers for their help, support and generosity of spirit.”
