Landlord injured by thief in Huddersfield pub raid

A Huddersfield pub was broken into on Christmas Day as the thief injured the landlord and fled with money.

The Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to speak with anyone who has information about the incident at the Clarence Hotel, Towngate in the early hours of December 25.

It occurred after a man broke into the pub at about 3.30am and began to search the bar.

He was disturbed by the landlord and fled following a brief struggle with a small amount of cash.

The landlord sustained a minor hand injury as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as around 6ft tall and of medium to stocky build wearing all black clothing including a hood, scarf and gloves.

PC Lisa Cornforth of the Huddersfield South NPT, said: “We are investigating this incident and a related incident at about 1.30am on Sunday December 28 in which a man fitting the description of the suspect was seen poking his head through one of the pub windows.

“Given people may have been out late on both these nights it is possible someone may have seen a man fitting this description fleeing from the scene.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact myself at the Huddersfield South NPT on 101. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
