The first public meeting to discuss plans for next year’s Tour de France Cultural Festival has taken place in Halifax.
Around 150 arts organisations attended the gathering at Dean Clough, where people were asked to contribute their ideas.
The festival will start 100 days before the race begins with the aim of showcasing Yorkshire’s cultural offering to a world-wide audience.
Maria Bota, artistic director of the festival, said: “I outlined my creative vision for the festival, the commissioning process and guidelines for expressions of interest.
“We are looking to create a cultural festival that will welcome the world to Yorkshire with all kinds of artistic activity that is engaging and accessible, challenging and thought-provoking
“It’s a chance for local groups to get involved, show how much fantastic art there is in Yorkshire and start thinking about the hundreds of millions who will watch the event and line the route.
“I got some really interesting questions put to me and people were very positive and excited.
“We’re looking to award some major commissions and organise regular events in the build-up to the Tour.”
