AN INFLUENTIAL businessman is backing Fax's Super League bid – and today the Courier is calling on everyone in Calderdale to join him.
We want readers to tell us why Halifax RL deserve to return to the big time.
Feisal Nahaboo, whose firm PROBIZ is the club's new main sponsor and who has strong Middle Eastern connections, is throwing his weight behind the push for promotion.
The Championship Grand Final winners are vying with Widnes and Barrow for the coveted place among Rugby League's elite from 2012, and the RFL will make its decision in March.
Club officials say Mr Nahaboo's support is a significant coup in the battle to return to the big time.
Matt Turner, marketing manager, said: "He has a lot of ambition to really help get rugby league to the next level.
"We have introduced PROBIZ to the rugby league world and he wants to repay the faith that Halifax have shown him.
"He has seen what Halifax is capable of and he's going to do everything in his power to get Halifax into the Super League."
Mr Nahaboo's financial services firm is heavily involved with the Premier League's West Bromwich Albion and is also title sponsor of the Rugby League World Club Challenge.
The company is sponsored by a national media company in Qatar, which is to host the 2022 World Cup.
"He is starting to have quite a bit of influence, and he wants the best for the club and for PROBIZ so he is going to be working hard," said Mr Turner.
Mr Nahaboo has promised a massive party for the town if the bid is successful – and Fax regain their place in Super League, which they lost in 2003.
"I'm very impressed with Halifax and what Rugby League as a sport has to offer," he said.
"The potential for this sport is huge and Halifax is a club that will progress and we are totally behind the club.
"We are excited to offer our support using our expertise and contacts to help Halifax expand and grow."
The investor says he is confident of promotion, which he sees as the "logical" decision.
"After all, Halifax seems to fulfil all the relevant criteria and the club was the best placed club of the three applicants' in the league last year.
"We look forward to the prospect of Super League and are happy to be part of that investment.
"We want Halifax to compete with the very best and they deserve this opportunity on merit."
