Licence granted for Casa extension

Calderdale’s Council licensing committee approved a premises licence for the Casa Hotel and Restaurant, Elland Road, Brighouse, following a planning committee meeting last month at which a retrospective proposal for its new extension was refused by the planning committee, leaving bosses fearing for the future of the business.

The unauthorised extension, which has already been constructed, is currently covered by an Enforcement Notice, which requires that the building be removed.

Planning permission was declined on the basis of the size of the extension that is believed to be greater than originally approved and for concerns for the development’s impact on the openness of the greenbelt land. Management at the Casa will appeal the decision to remove the extension.

Jack McDaid, owner of the Casa, represented by Richard Williams of LR Law Licensing Solicitors, said the council had “no legal bounds to stand on” in rejecting the licence.

“It has been a long battle with the planning committee at Calderdale Council. With the licence granted, we are open for business as usual.”
