Fresh from her courageous Challenge Cup Final appearance, Lizzie Jones will open the main game in song at Halifax’s fundraising day in honour of her husband Danny.
The event will see Halifax Select 13 play World Select 13 at the MBI Shay Stadium pitch on Sunday October 11, opened with a rendition of Lizzie’s chart-climbing single ‘Abide with Me’.
Lizzie’s husband and former ‘Fax player, Danny, sadly passed away in May this year after he suffered a heart attack playing for Keighley Cougars against London Skolars.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Since that day, Lizzie has been amazingly brave on all fronts, even supporting her husband’s teams on the terraces.”
After Lizzie’s opening song, Halifax-born NRL and England international star Gareth Widdop will kick off the charity match.
The proceeds of the match will go directly to the Rugby F ootball League Benevolent Fund in Danny’s name, to support Danny’s family.
Since May, Gareth has shown continued suppport for the fundraising efforts on Danny’s behalf.
