Lucie signs up for Overgate run

A nurse from Halifax has signed up to take part in the Overgate Hospice 10k Challenge next month.

Lucie Fenton, who is a sister on the inpatient unit at Overgate Hospice, will join the race on Sunday, April 17, which starts and finishes at Trinity Academy in Holmfield and is famed for taking in some of the best views and toughest hills in Calderdale.

Lucie has booked the day off from the hospice to take part and has received a lot of encouragement from the wider hospice team.

Many staff members have also volunteered their time on the day to help marshal the event, and several nurses will be showing their support and appreciation by handing out medals at the finish line.

Lucie said; “Getting involved in events like the 10k Challenge is so important and the nursing staff are always keen to support the efforts of the fundraising team.

“Without the continued support of the community we couldn’t provide our specialist care and so we are all glad to give our time and efforts whenever we can.”

Event fundraiser Rebecca Gill said; “We receive a wealth support from the entire hospice team each year and without it we simply wouldn’t be able to host events such as the 10k Challenge.

“We will all be there on the day to cheer Lucie on.”

The hospice must raise £6,800 each day, or £280 each hour, to continue in the provision of care.
