Lucy’s a star ballet pupil after dance school success

A young ballet dancer is celebrating after scoring a place on a prestigious training programme.

Lucy Dewhirst, 10, of Queensbury, has been selected by the Royal Ballet School to become a junior associate.

Lucy, who attends the Abinitio School of Dance, Clifton Mills, Bailiff Bridge, four times a week will begin the programme in September.

And dance teacher Liz Scattergood couldn’t be prouder of her talented pupil.

Liz, principal of the dance school, said: “Out of 300 children, Lucy was offered one of three or four places across the whole country.

“It’s very difficult to get a place and I’m really, really delighted for her.

“Lucy is a very hard worker and there’s just something about her, she’s a little star.”

Lucy’s mum Helen, 44, added: “Lucy is really excited about going and it’s opened up a whole new avenue for her.”

The Lightcliffe C of E school pupil also takes part in tap, modern, musical theatre and funky ballet classes alongside her ballet classes and is now raring to go.

On top of her classes at Abinitio, Lucy will attend associate classes in Leeds for three hours on a Saturday morninng.

Associates sometimes have the opportunity to perform with The Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and other ballet companies and many have progressed through the School and into the Royal Ballet Companies.
