Machete-wielding masked men raid Halifax supermarket

Two masked men armed with machetes raided a supermarket yesterday (Sunday).

The incident happened at around 9pm, when the men entered the Sainsbury’s Local store on Park Drive. They threatened store workers and demanded cash before making off with an amount money.

The suspects are believed to have left the scene in silver or grey coloured saloon-type vehicle. It then drove off down Rochdale Road towards Crow Wood Park.

Detective Sergeant Ross Wadsworth of Calderdale CID said: “I would appeal to anyone who was around the area on Sunday evening who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously, or who may have seen a vehicle matching the description in the area in the time before the incident, or who has witnessed the vehicle driving away from the scene to come forward. Enquiries are continuing.”
