Man arrested after two-hour standoff with armed police

Armed police were involved in a two-hour standoff after a man possessing a knife was reported to have attacked his partner and locked himself and an 18-month-old child inside a house in Queensbury.

The incident unfolded at around 3.30am on Thursday morning.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 3.31am yesterday to a report of a domestic incident at an address in the Queensbury area.

“Officers attended and found an 18-year-old woman outside the property with slight injuries to her fingers.

“The woman said her ex-partner, a 25-year-old man from Bradford, had attacked her and locked her out of the house with her 18-month old child still inside.

“It was established that the male was in possession of a knife, so armed officers were deployed to the scene.

“After some negotiation with officers, the male exited the property at 5.46am and was arrested on suspicion of assault and other matters.

“He was taken to hospital to be treated for an arm injury. The child was unharmed.”
