Man charged after knife drama at Leeds supermarket

A 32-year-old man will appear in court this morning accuised of wielding a knife during a five-hour seige at a Leeds supermarket.

Michael Palme of Brownhill Crescent, Leeds, has been charged with affray, theft, assault and arson following an alleged stand-off with police at Sainsbury’s in Harehills at the weekend.

Dozens of officers, including many armed with guns, were deployed to Harehills Lane, Harehills, on Sunday at 1.20pm.

Police said a suspect gave himself up at around 6pm.

Palmer has been remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Magistrates this morning.
