The 45-year-old victim was at the junction of Popples Drive and Tewit Green in Illingworth when he was approached by two men. An argument broke out, and the man was punched and kicked on the floor.

One of the men said to the other: “Right Dave, job well done” and they escaped with his mobile phone.

One was described as white, in his 20s, 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall, of slight build with blond spikey hair. He was wearing a jumper with dark and white stripes. The other was described as white, with darker hair and darker clothes.

The attack happened at 11.30pm on Wednesday.

Police are also investigating an unconnected mugging in Elland. A 16-year-old girl was on Southgate when her wrist was grabbed and her mobile phone was snatched from her hand.

The culprits were described as two black men, aged 16 to 17, both with black drawstring bags.

One was 5ft 7ins to 5ft 9ins tall, skinny, with brown eyes and wearing dark blue jeans, blue Addidas trainers and a black and grey zipped hooded top.

The other was wearing a black zipped hooded top.
